Everytime I relisten to it I get disappointed. It just seems like a pop album with zero hooks to me. Maybe The Stars of Track and field is mildly catchy but I am not too sure about the resto f the album. The vocalist seems pretty unexpressive and poor to me as well which may well disguised any songwriting talent there is in the album.
I actually saw Belle and Sebastian live once. My brother had free tickets because he was taking photos of the concert on behalf of a magazine. It remains the only time I have ever walked out of the concert early prior to it being finished. I think Belle And Sebastian has one song that I consider melodic and that I genuinely like which was She’s Losing it from the debut album where that has a catchy chorus
I do like Weezer debut album but I do have similar complaints that outside Buddy Holly the melodies is too simple. I think Pinkerton is significantly more melodic and catchy
Johnny Burnette - I haven’t heard The Cramps before. my frame of reference is the Yardbirds. listening to Honey Hush and thinking this is where Yardbirds get Stroll On from (I guess in addition to The Train Kept A Rollin)
