I think "vintage rock" sounds sillier.

Maybe if I’d grown up with it I’d think “classic rock” sounded stupid, but people use “classic” like that all the time, i.e. “classic movies.” Nobody says “vintage movies.”
Is 90s grunge/alternative guitar rock “classic rock” now? If not, is there a “this music is old now”-type term for it?
