I read the Sandman in high school, as well as American Gods and some of his stories. Thought there were some very good bits but he can’t write endings and a lot of the good stuff is extrapolations of other people’s ideas - the basic plot of American Gods is lifted from a Kipling short story, for example.
A friend of mine is friends with a lot of people in his orbit and was telling me about his creepy behavior for years. I’m generally fine with reading/watching stuff by pieces of shit but tbh he’s not really good enough that my enjoyment of his work would outweigh what a creep he is, esp since so much of it connects to the persona he built that in a lot of ways allowed him to abuse people.
