Skyfall is third best Bond movie IMO after Goldfinger and From Russia With Love IMO. I guess I’ve probably already said this, but “fealty to what James Bond is supposed to be” or “Ian Fleming’s vision” matters little to me in lieu of me reading four of the books and finding out they were miserably dated embarrassing shit, and that the 60s Connery films were inconsistent themselves anyway (two classics, one decent one, two mediocrities and a turd) and that having a new actor try to recreate Connery’s style would be tiresome and obvious.
I think Skyfall had really good locations and action set pieces, I didn’t think it was miserably overcut like the Jason Bourne movies were notorious for being (I haven’t watched them, but that’s what everyone in the world says.) The one that was edited within an inch of its life was Quantum Of Solace. If you feel like watching any other one watch Skyfall.
Really, between Goldfinger, From Russia With Love, Casino Royale and Skyfall, that’s all I really need from the series. The very ending of the Craig films was effective (you know what it is, right?) too but much of No Time To Die was drawn out with boring John Wick wannabe action sequences and (I wasn’t surprised by this one bit, calling it a whole year before the movie came out) they completely wasted Rami Malek as the villain.
