yep it’s exactly as I thought. Guitar Man Play Real Good.
However I’d add that the drumming is pretty incredible, some songs are almost drum solos at the same time as they are guitar solos.
The biggest negative is that the solos lose something being removed from the context of the original performances. All of these seem like they would have served as the climactic portions of the original songs but that emotional climax that they originally provided is muted significantly when its just one solo section after another. And being that is all the same thing over and over for the entire runtime it all blurs together and becomes background music after a while. I’d take kind of thing over a lot of his other stuff since the chaotic dissonance of much of zappa’s composed work is absent (plus no lyrics). But this is probably going to appeal to musicians who appreciate technique and musical improvisation more than music fans who want albums with actual songs on them.
