I know I’ve always preferred the originals of both “I Shot The Sheriff” and “Cocaine” but that’s not really out of disgust for Clapton, I’m not really addicted to either song.
I wanted to say that Leon Wilkeson was murdered but that’s more of a conspiracy theory or something.
To be fair I do remember the hype around the Unplugged thing with Clapton because he was going up against the (then very popular, but about to be hit with a massive backlash) “Achy Breaky Heart.” My grade school music teacher passed around a ballot to see if we kids would vote for the sad ballad by a classic rock hero about his own personal tragedy…or the stupid-ass country song by the dumbass with the mullet that little girls like to line-dance to. I can’t remember what happened, though.
