I did watch an interview with him and he does seem like way less of a serious guy than what his music would lead you to think. I’m not sure if i’d want to go to one of his shows though. maybe just for the novel expirience of hearing that music with an audience but it’s not like he’s “performing” much of anything.

the loops are among basinski’s best works not because of the 9/11 thing but because they’re actually kinda enjoyable to listen to and the disintegrating gimmick plus the general tranquil nature of the music makes them a bit more engaging and enjoyable than his other albums. I do like much of his other stuff but a lot of it is either just wallowing in bleakness for 45 minutes which isn’t something i want to put on too often (“A Shadow In Time” is a good example). or so static and musically-nothing that I’ll use it to fall asleep to (El Camino Real has been a good one for this).
