Ummagumma is a funny novelty to go back to every once in awhile. Its definitely silly and doesn’t have much actual value really, it sounds clearly like the band dicking around completely although I do like Grantchester Meadows quite a bit. I like Roger’s folky songs around this period and its really nice and quiet. Probably the best thing on the collection beside Careful With That Axe and the live stuff. Ricks clips are pretty cool scary sounding stuff as atmosphere kind of stuff, dated or not. I do laugh every time i hear that one clip where he is literally just banging randomly on his piano though. Its literally him just banging his hands on the piano for a few minutes although as silly as that is, it does sound foreboding.
Several Species is ridiculous. I used to appreciate it more when i was younger for being very experimental and fucked up sounding with some innovative avant garde recording techniques for 1969 but its just silly and obnoxious.
Lumpy Gravy - similar thing to Ummagumma. More of a novelty to go back to occasionally to marvel at the weirdness and atmosphere. The only thing i would mainly want to go back to is the “voices inside a piano” part though. Thats the only thing i really cared for besides some of the orchestration because its pretty creepy
I always loved Bob Dylans debut honestly. It might be one of my favorites from him which not many people would say. Its just an acoustic record with him doing a bunch of covers and traditional tunes but I love his enthusiasm and spirit, and a lot of them are super catchy. Freight Train Blues is hilarious. In my Time Of Dyin is fucking badass, i love his version. Yeah not sure why but i really like this album. Its got an authenticity and a charm to it that i enjoy.
