I didnt think it was condescending, its totally true and has become a pretty significant barrier for people in terms of making coherent sense of what’s going on in the world around them.
Most of the focus on trump outside of the US is on his personality and demeanor (more or less: “he’s just a selfish scumbag asshole who represents so many bad things, how could anyone vote for him when Kamala is such a nice lady?”) of course that completely misses the actual reasons people would want to vote for him since the actual issues relevant to the election are not seen so closely by people who aren’t actually living in those places and communities. I have no idea whatsoever about how latino and black communities in america feel or what kind of media they consume except for what I’m told is true about them by the liberal media (which is obviously skewed in its own way).
the “college educated” vs. “not college educated,” thing I did notice. and when this pops up it does feel a bit like they’re saying under their breath “smart people vs stupid people”. whereas “white/blue collar/working class” types of distinctions don’t really have that same insinuation. so no surprise that that rubs people the wrong way.
The news content thing is ridiculous in a lot of ways. one of which is that it raises the question as to what actually counts as “news”? Like if I look up the instagram account of my former university’s campus radio station no posts appear and it just says “People in Canada cant see this content. In response to Canadian government legislation, news content cant be viewed in Canada”. Insane shit imo. I can claim to be more of a liberal-minded person but it’s possible I’ll end up voting Conservative for the first time in the next Canadian election because of stuff like that.
