Index > We never talked about the Rock & Roll HoF final inductees this year. > REM got inducted into the songwriters hall of fame > That's exactly what I've been saying for ages now

There was a bit of a US/UK divide for a while, because I get the impression they commercially dropped off in the US right after Berry left and that was percieved as the big point of no return, quality wise as well. But in the UK Up and Reveal were big hits, even Around The Sun did pretty well.
I’ve always liked that Up/Reveal duo as well. Felt to me like they were doing a slightly Radioheady transition into more electronic and less guitar-centric music. But they didn’t manage to bring their fanbase along with them like Radiohead did.
The band seem really high on Accelerate to this day. I can’t say I ever much cared for it though.

I don't really know much at all about R. E. M.'s reputation outside of the US. -
