The Do you feel like we do song or whatever it is. That’s all I know. I only know what his face looks like because of that album cover, which I’ve seen many times. I don’t know the other two hits and I know the album was a big bestseller in 1976 and I know he was known for the guitar talkbox effect or whatever it was and I know he was on The Simpsons in the Hullabalooza episode and I guess some future generations kind of liked him because of the talking guitar effect? I don’t know the names of any other album he did besides the FCA album. I really almost never think about Frampton at all.
Foreigner - I like “Cold As Ice” but not really of their others. I hate “Hot Blooded” and “I Wanna Know What Love Is” and I thought the latter used to be one of the most hated songs of all time. Uh, I’m sort of surprised they weren’t in already, and you say BOSTON isn’t in there? I think they’re far less of a culprit for your motif that “anyone who is remotely ‘classic rock’ gets in” than Frampton is. I figure if Journey can get in so can Foreigner, as will Styx, Asia, Boston, Kansas, etc. all the one-name corporate rock bands from that era.
Cher - Don’t care for her at all but am surprised that she wasn’t in; this is a commentary on how lame the R&RHOF is that I thought she was already in it, not that she will be.
Dave Matthews Band - I don’t know what their status is in 2024 except that they’re getting old and one guy from the band died. When I was a kid younger people of around late high school or college age seemed to view their concerts as deep grown-up art, while critics were slagging them off for being pretentious and boring. I’d forgotten about them mostly except for when the one guy died, and that time they accidentally dumped tour bus waste onto a boat full of people or something and everyone laughed at them by which point I thought their reputation was that they were by far the uncoolest of the successful 90s alt-rock bands. I absolutely hate everything by them that I’ve heard besides “Satellite”; “I Did It” and “Gravedigger” are two of the 20 or 30 worst songs I’ve ever heard for sure and their jam stuff was boring as hell and that Dave Matthews is the worst of the post-Vedder vocalists, even worse than Scott Stapp, and only Train have a lower batting average in terms of coming up with songs that I like among bands from the 90s.
Regarding Uriah Heep in the other post, I’d never heard of that band at all until I found George’s website and began reading all those vicious reviews he wrote of their work (he really sounds like he was on the verge of tearing his hair out by the time he reached the end of the 1970s, too.) I looked up some of their songs for laugh purposes (“Dreammare,” “The Wizard,” “Come Away Melinda,” “The Magician’s Birthday,” yeesh) but I’ve never heard any of their songs in public, or in movies, or anywhere besides that. I don’t know anybody who’s heard of them. They’re not getting in. God knows if anyone from that band is even still alive.
