lol, even i didnt make it through the astonishing in full. Even the hardcore prog fans who normally like anything that’s prog enough hated that one. From the Mike Mangini (other drummer guy) era I only listened to the self-titled (not great but had some interesting ideas) and Distance Over Time (which was not awful but just dull) in full. But Portnoy back in the band is enough to make me interested. I do enjoy his drumming style and while he isnt a songwriter he is a decent arranger of the ideas of his various bands. (I’ve come to be decently fond of Transatlantic and some of the Neal Morse albums he’s on).
Hugh Syme has gotta be pretty old now. Maybe he only put in effort when it came to Rush and phoned it in with everyone else cus that Iron Maiden cover is pretty dreadful too.
yeah you can tell the reactions of the folks in the booth are pretty funny.
The Portnoy one of these is Taylor Swift? Pass, gas or ass? Pass.
That one is kind of a joke. the whole premise is to choose songs that dont suit the musician after all. The thing I found most amusing is that even though the song is super basic he actually does get tripped up by the timing in one part. Funny how he’d never heard any swift songs before, like has he never stepped foot in a mall before? the one portnoy did hearing Nickelback is actually pretty good though, he comes up with a part that suits the song pretty well. (not that it was a great song to begin with anyway of course).
The one of these Stewart Copland did to a Limp Bizkit song is pretty amusing, you can tell he doesnt take it seriously and just screws around the whole time and doesnt even bother with a second take.
