Actually neither is a terribly great book so I’m not really recommending them. I wonder how Eugenides’ Middlesex - one of the best books I’ve ever read - would be received today (it’s about a transgender person.)
It took me awhile to appreciate live early R. E. M., because I was too used to the studio records and then they played every song uptempo and garagey and raw without any nuance and I had to get used to it. “Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars)” really was better live though.
Were the P-Furs good live? The live footage I’ve seen of them wasn’t terribly good.
How “proto-Politically Correct” were things in the early 80s on campus? Everyone screams bloody murder about campus PC now.
