Well, theoretically you could be talking about the first four Alien movies, which was also a “two good, two bad” thing.
The third and fourth Alien movies are not good, but they’re no where near as bad as these Terminator movies.
When I said that the first movie takes place in 1984 or 1980 or 1981 that was a reference to the retcons and continuity confusion in T3. T3 is supposed to be 2004 (I didn’t catch an on-screen date but other people did). Then they say that T2 happened in 1997, but elsewhere in the movie John Connor says that they blew up Cyberdyne “ten years ago,” and that Sarah was diagnosed with leukemia, given 6 months to live, and then ended up hanging on 3 years and dying right after confirming that Judgement Day didn’t happen on the original 1997 date. They also say that John Connor was 13 in T2 (which is a retcon). So that pushes it to 1980.
According to the first two movies, the first one takes place May 1984, and John is born in February 1985.
Missile Command was old in 1990.
or that GI Joe movie where they drop a rod from space onto London and blow it to smithereens.
hehe, I didn’t know about that.
You know what? At the end of T3, they’re probably in a more dire situation than they would have been if they hadn’t blown up Cyberdyne in the 1990s. John Connor is a drug addled mess, a bunch of key people from the resistance got killed by the lady Terminator, and instead of being a giant supercomputer based on futuristic computer chip technology, Skynet is physically decentralized and living in everything that was connected to the internet when the virus was unleashed.
Anton Yelchin was probably technically a better actor than poor old Michael Biehn (who I remember as being kinda bad in any non-Cameron role he’s played) but did he seem like Kyle Reese to you?
No. No he did not.
Whatever his technical shortcomings, Biehn’s performances in The Terminator and Aliens capture a balance of toughness and vulnerability that serves the movies well.
