The "soap opera" effect is real lol

The motion smoothing was immediately noticeable. Not sure I’ve ever watched an actual soap opera to observe this.

That was a pretty interesting scene! There is definitely something soothing and hypnotizing about it. The long takes, the monologues, the explicit references to previous storylines to catch you up…I get it now haha. It’s hard for me to see young people getting into soaps on streaming when there is such a bevy of other incredible, lauded content available on (what would be) the same platform. Like, if it’s between a random HBO show and even a high-quality soap, I think most people might choose HBO. But at the same time, people do love content where they don’t have to think much. So who knows…

You bring up a good point about serial content though. It seems like putting out stories in serial form is mostly a thing of the past, aside from certain mediums that are chugging along without much new growth like soaps and comics, or from like, niche podcasts and Youtube channels. I wonder why that is. Maybe it’s just that it’s hard to make serial things and keep the quality up.
