I’m finally going to watch Sleepaway Camp for Halloween this year, a movie I’ve ignored for years (I do know about the ending mind you.)
I still think that Cronos is the only Del Toro film that really satisfies me all the way through. Just about all of his others I’ve held at arm’s length. I always felt that Pan’s Labyrinth veered too awkwardly between the fantasy film and the war horrors. I’m not convinced that that many people think his Best Picture winner is his best film, either.
Ugh, you mean that scene where Graham charges at Dollarhyde through the window in slow-motion, where Dollarhyde would have been able to see Graham from like a mile away? I fucking HATED that bit. It wasn’t in the book, either (which, by the way, is still by far the best adaptation of that story.) It really icks me out when people say Manhunter is the best Lecter movie. I know people have some valid reasons for disliking Silence Of The Lambs but gawd. Manhunter is like R-rated Miami Vice.
I mildly enjoyed Freddy Vs. Jason and parts of the original Elm Street but really have no desire to watch all the sequels. Dream Warriors had some amusing bits for a film that’s total fucking cheese, but it’s still total fucking cheese.
I didn’t think that 2005 House Of Wax was even well remembered at all–I thought it was one of those films that had a really short shelf life followed up by truckloads of used DVDs showing up in used DVD places which now of course no longer exist.
