I could go either way with Pearl. I don’t really think that it’s out of place in the post-psychedelic early ’70s, but I don’t see why it couldn’t have come out in 1969. If by “that’s probably because she died afterwards,” you mean that it seems like a hippie album because Janis Joplin didn’t live long enough to transition away from that image, but if she had then maybe we’d see see it as the beginning of the next phase of her career, then that makes sense.
